Capturing Kelley O’Hara: A Photographers Dream Shoot with a Down-to-Earth Soccer Star

I remember receiving the call to capture the amazing two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, Kelley O’Hara two days before the actual shoot! “Wait, what?!” I thought…

I’m glad I picked up and agreed to it because photographing Kelly for Just Women’s Sports was an absolute dream come true. In all honesty, it was incredible to be back at work in the midst of the pandemic, especially with the uncertainty of the world never opening back up…Receiving the call to photograph her was a sign that perhaps things were changing for the better, and they were!

Kelley’s down-to-earth and sweet nature made the experience even more amazing.

From the moment I met her, I could tell that she was not only a talented athlete, but also a genuinely kind and caring person. As a mompreneur, it was refreshing to work with someone who was so grounded and easy to talk to. Despite her impressive achievements on the field, Kelley was humble and gracious to me and the crew. 

During the photoshoot, Kelley’s professionalism and work ethic were evident. She knew exactly how to pose and move to create the perfect shot, and her passion for soccer shone through in every frame. As a photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a better subject to capture.

But what really stood out to me was Kelley’s warmth and kindness. She took the time to chat with me and like I said, LET ME TOUCH THOSE MEDALS!!!!! 

That day was a reminder that hard work and dedication can pay off, and that it’s possible to balance a successful career with a down-to-earth and authentic personality. I am grateful for the opportunity to have captured her, and I hope to work with her again in the future.
